Manual Handling

Course aims

This manual handling course is designed to teach individuals how to lift, carry, and move objects safely in order to reduce the risk of injury and harm. The course also highlights the importance of the physical, legal and business elements associated with manual handing.

What is covered?

  • The anatomy of the spine and the common types of injuries that can result from poor manual handling techniques
  • The principles of good body mechanics and safe lifting techniques
  • The use of mechanical aids and handling equipment, such as trolleys and hoists
  • The risk assessment process and how to identify and control manual handling hazards in the workplace
  • The legal requirements related to manual handling and the role of the employer in ensuring the safety of employees

The course is delivered through a combination of demonstrations, and practical exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to practice safe manual handling techniques and learn how to assess and control manual handling risks in their workplace. At the end of the course, participants should feel confident in their ability to handle objects safely and reduce the risk of injury to themselves and others. At the end of the course there will be a written quiz and practical assessment.

Certificate

A certificate will be issued to the delegates. The certificate is valid for 3 years.

When and where?

Courses can be arranged on request for large groups, or delegates can join a prearranged course if there are fewer numbers, get in touch to find out what courses are running. We ask all delegates to arrive at 8:00am on the course date so that the training can start on time.

Most of our training is delivered at our City Depot in Canning Town, a few minutes walk from Star Lane DLR station. The full address and contact information are available here. However training is also available at our other depots based in Croydon and Wembley, or we can delivery training at your place of work, please contact us for further details.

On-site training course requirements

We can offer this course at your place of work if it is in the London area. For this option the venue must be large enough to accommodate all of the delegates with the maximum being 12 people with enough floor space to be able to perform practical exercises if necessary.. The venue must also be clean, warm and dry,

Be aware that if these requirements are not met, we may be unable to offer the training course and you will be liable for the full cost.

Duration

This course is delivered over a ½ day.

How many people?

Up to 12 people on each course.

What do I need to bring?

This is a theory based course with some practical elements. Delegates should wear comfortable clothing but will not be required to bring any specialist PPE.

How is it assessed?

There will be a quiz at the end of the course.
