Hire Desk Controller – Wembley

We are looking for an experienced customer service desk professional from a tool, plant, access, or any other equipment hire background, who wants to develop their career and help us grow our business.

The Hireman is an independent tool hire company providing construction equipment services to professional contractors working in London and the Home Counties. Established in 1985, we have a successful 39-year track record and ambitious plans for growth. Our customers construct and maintain the buildings and infrastructure that we rely on for our homes, offices, schools, shops and hospitals, and we help them deliver their projects on time and on budget.

What will I be doing?

As part of a depot-based office team, you will play a key role in managing and coordinating the hiring process, ensuring timely delivery and return of equipment, maintaining accurate records, providing exceptional customer service to our clients. Day to day you will work closely with our workshop, warehouse, sales and driving teams whilst carrying out the following activities:

  • Answering the phone and responding to emails/messages
  • Dealing with customers at the trade counter
  • Helping, giving advice, solving problems, and building relationships
  • Processing orders on our computer system and general administration
  • Monitoring stock levels and organising equipment transfers from other depots
  • Ordering equipment with suppliers and researching new items
  • Organising deliveries and collections into driver schedules/runs


What do I need?

  • A proven track record within the hire industry
  • The enthusiasm to learn about our business and range of equipment
  • The ability to multi-task, working quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A good level of numeracy, literacy and IT skill
  • A sense of humour

  • Salary starting from £29,000 per annum, negotiable based on experience
