Choosing Calor Gas FAQs
How can I check how much gas is left in my cylinder?
Calor’s 5kg and 13kg Patio Gas cylinders are fitted with Calor Gas Trac, an easy-to-read indicator that shows when your gas level is running low.
For all other cylinders, you can check the remaining gas by weighing the bottle. Each cylinder has an empty (tare) weight stamped on a metal disc on the shroud. This is shown in pounds and ounces and can be converted to kilograms by multiplying by 0.453592.
Once you know the empty weight, weigh the full cylinder and subtract the tare weight. The difference shows how much gas is left inside. This can then be compared against the cylinder’s total gas capacity (for example, 13kg).
How full is a Calor gas cylinder when supplied?
Calor gas cylinders are typically filled to between 80–87% capacity. This is a safety requirement that allows space for the liquid gas to expand.
The stated weight on the front of the cylinder refers to the net weight of the gas contents, not the total cylinder weight.
What is the empty weight of a Calor gas cylinder?
The empty weight (also known as the tare weight) varies depending on the size and type of cylinder.
This information is clearly marked on a metal disc located on the cylinder shroud. It represents the weight of the empty cylinder only and is used when calculating how much gas remains inside.
